About “Live From New York-Mike Longo and the New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble”

In an article around the turn of the century, jazz journalist Owen Cordle made reference to live jazz as being the “salvation of jazz”. On July 23rd of 2013 the “New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble” played a concert at the Gillespie Auditorium in which the Ensemble was literally “on fire.” The air was filled with electric excitement and the outstanding solo and ensemble work elevated the audience to heights rarely reached in performances of late and almost never captured on a recording. Fortunately, this one was, and it reflects all the above-mentioned excitement and energy emanating from both the stage and throughout the audience.
