Lee Greene
Greene attended NY State University to study with multi-reed player, Ken McIntyre. While attending school, he gigged in bands lead by Frank Foster, Joe Newman and Billy Mitchell. After leaving school, Greene turned his attention to teaching by working with teenagers interested in jazz and joining the staff of St. Francis High School as Jazz Band Director.
Over the years, Greene has diversified his jazz interests. Continuing to work as a performer, he has backed such vocalists as Teresa Brewer, Dianna Carroll, Frankie Laine and Frank Sinatra. His maiden album New York Calling was issued in 1997 on the Consolidated Artists Productions label. Greene also became involved with the production side of jazz. From 1990-1996, he was associated with Chesky Records, working on recording projects for Clark Terry, Eddie Daniels and other Chesky recording artists.
He then became associated with long time Dizzy Gillespie pianist and musical director, Mike Longo, to help expand Consolidated Artist Productions, a company Mike started based on the policy that performers should have greater artistic control and receive greater financial rewards from their recorded performances. Greene serves as the company’s Vice President for Marketing. He also plays in Longo’s big band and is a featured soloist with the New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble.
